Arc’teryx Academy registration date announced

Registration for this year’s Arc’teryx Academy, held from June 16-19 in Chamonix, will open on Tuesday, March 15th from 11am GMT. You may have read about last year’s Arc’teryx Academy in Trek & Mountain, when we accompanied participants on the ‘Basic Mountaineering’, ‘Advanced Technical Alpinism’, and ‘Overnight Bivy’ clinics. The four day event starts on Thursday with a with a mountain clean-up, where participants will join certified mountains guides and over 20 international Arc´teryx athletes to collect rubbish on the mountain, a collaboration between the Arc’teryx Alpine Academy and the Compagnie du Mont-Blanc. Mountain Hardwear and Snow+Rock will be hosting a night with Ueli Steck during which he will be sharing his latest line of feats, including his reclaimed Eiger record, in only 2 hours, 22 minutes. The lecture titled ‘Ueli Steck/Magic Moments’ will be held at the London Geographical Society on 22 January. 2015 proved to be a big year for Steck, including his ‘82 Summits’ project in the Alps this summer, where he climbed all 82 4,000m peaks in the Alps in 62 days, using only human power. Fjallraven ambassador Alan Hinkes is about to kick off his UK-wide lecture tour, ‘An Evening with Alan Hinkes OBE’, taking place at Cotswold Outdoor stores this month. Hinkes is the first Briton to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000m peaks, and will visit 10 Cotswold Outdoor stores around the UK to deliver a series of talks about his greatest adventures. Stephen Venables announces ‘Life After Everest’ tour dates

Community Action Nepal are proud to present a new lecture series by Stephen Venables entitled ‘Life After Everest – The Adventure Continues!’ During the show, which will be illustrated with stunning images, Venables will tell tales of adventures around the world, including his escape from death in the Indian Himalaya when an abseil anchor failed and he fell 300 feet, finding himself on a remote glacier at 5,800m with two broken legs.
