Macmillan Cancer Support’s Mighty Hikes walking series is back this summer with eight marathon length hikes including four new routes. Taking place between June and September, the hiking series spans some of the UK’s most picturesque landscapes.

New locations for 2017 include Loch Lomond, the Lake District, the Peak District and Thames Path. Whether it’s the unspoilt coastline of Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, a trek past old Roman forts along the mighty Hadrian’s Wall, or a walk through the picture-perfect Peak District, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The series includes:

Loch Lomond Mighty Hike – 3 June 2017

South Coast Mighty Hike – 10 June 2017

Lake District Mighty Hike – 17 June 2017

Hadrian’s Wall Mighty Hike – 24 June 2017

Jurassic Coast Mighty Hike – 8 July 2017

Cotswold Way Mighty Hike – 22 July 2017

Thames Path Mighty Hike – 29 July 2017

Peak District Mighty Hike – 2 September 2017

Popular with keen ramblers and novice walkers alike, the series attracted 2,400 participants in 2016, who between them raised an incredible £1.3m to help Macmillan ensure no one has to face cancer alone.

Among those who took on a Mighty Hike last year was journalist, broadcaster and writer, Sian Williams, who took part with her two brothers. Sian commented:

“Taking part in the South Coast Mighty Hike last year was a wonderful day. I signed up because Macmillan had been there for my mum when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and they were there for me when I received my own cancer diagnosis.

“The route took us to our home of Eastbourne, so it was very emotional and we were helped along the way by the amazing views and fantastic atmosphere. We loved it so much we want to do it again!

“A Mighty Hike is certainly a challenge but the brilliant care that we and millions of others receive every day from Macmillan made every step worthwhile.  Along with my brothers, I was proud to be part of Team Macmillan and would encourage everybody to lace up their walking boots and give it a go.”

To get involved, simply sign up online at www.macmillan.org.uk/mightyhikes and pay the registration fee of £25. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £250 in sponsorship.
