To celebrate the launch of the new range, Montane are giving away to one lucky reader one of the key pieces in their Gore-Tex waterproof line-up, the Alpine Pro Jacket, worth £330. Developed for unrivalled waterproof performance in the mountains, the Alpine Pro Jacket is an extremely versatile and lightweight Gore-Tex Pro 40-denier mountain shell with all the essential features you need, but none that you don’t. The Alpine Pro Jacket is for perfect for climbers and mountain walkers alike. Let’s take a look at some of the key features of the Alpine Pro Jacket.
CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN
The Alpine Pro Jacket is constructed from lightweight 40-denier Gore-Tex Pro and features 12–13 stitch count per inch on all seams (compared to a typical industry average of 8), creating a tight, clean and strong seam. There’s a 3mm seam allowance on all seams, reducing weight and bulk under the micro-tape and creating a smooth, strong seam. Technical tailoring around the arms helps to prevent arm lift and raising the lower hem whilst reaching high, and articulated elbow panels move ergonomically with the arms. Slightly larger chest and bicep dimensions allow for winter layering and micro-climate creation, and the jacket features a dropped back hem for enhanced weather protection.
The hood is a vital component on any mountain shell, and the Alpine Pro Jacket features a fully-adjustable, climbing helmet- compatible hood designed to fit comfortably over a warm hat and helmet. Adjustable face aperture with external cord exits allow for quick adjustment, while side hood volume compression gives a close fit around head or helmet. A stiffened hood peak gives stability and wired edge allows adjustability, while the tall collar offers storm protection to the face.
Pockets include two map-sized A-line handwarmer pockets with YKK matte AquaGuard zips positioned clear of a backpack or climbing harness belt, a left hand side chest pocket with YKK matte AquaGuard zip ergonomic zip pullers make use easier when wearing gloves, and an internal right hand side stretch mesh pocket, articulated to provide extra volume for goggles or water bottle when required. The full- length YKK AquaGuard Vislon front zip on the Alpine Pro Jacket is highly water resistant and two way to allow easy access to climbing or rucksack harness and/or trousers, while an internal storm flap, together with press stud to secure the hem, helps prevent further weather entry.
