It’s been confirmed that at 14:08 Nepal time, three teammembers from the Gurkha Everest Expedition 2017 team became the first to summit from the south side this year. The Gurkhas were the first to find Ueli Steck’s body after he fell from Nuptse on April 30th. Trek & Mountain’s Technical Editor, Alun Richardson, is embedded with the team as official photographer. Ueli Steck dies on Everest

Legendary Swiss alpinist Ueli Steck has been killed in an accident while acclimatising for an attempt to traverse Lhotse and Everest.
