The Alps provides the perfect testing ground for Scarpa's latest hi-tech mountaineering boots

Getting a pair of mountaineering boots is a big investment so you need to make sure you get a pair that offer both comfort and performance. Featuring a bunch of innovations, including Scarpa’s ErgoFit technology, the Jorasses Pro GTX is one of the boots vying for your money. They certainly look the part straight from the box, and putting them on for the first time they feel both super comfortable and super supportive. I took them on a recent trip to the Alps, but in the weeks leading up to the trip, I wore them regularly walking in the hills. The boots aren’t completely rigid by any means, and the flex they have combined with their light weight and generalcomfort means you’ll easily be able to trek/walk in them for hours without problem.

During the course of a week in Switzerland and on Mont Blanc, I wore the Jorasses Pro all day in a variety
of conditions – from trekking and scrambling, to climbing on rock, ice and snow with crampons on, and I found the boots a real pleasure to wear. Keeping my feet warm at all times, they provided superb grip and stability, while remaining comfortable even after many hours. The fit of the Jorasses suited my feet but this is so critical that it’s vital to go into a shop and try before you buy. If they fit you well, though, the Jorasses should prove an excellent choice of lightweight mountaineering boot.
