Bigger Keswick Mountain Festival for 2013

The first details of the event programme for the 2013 Keswick Mountain Festival have been released, and on offer are more outdoor sports, a greater range of family activities, a larger variety of guided walks and a return to the Theatre by the Lake for the event’s biggest ever schedule of high-profile speakers.

Now in its seventh year, Keswick Mountain Festival 2013 will incorporate extended walking, running and biking programmes. New events will include an addition to the Borrowdale Trail Run series;  alongside the already popular 13k and 21k runs, an even more challenging option is being added – a 42k trail marathon that will include scaling Scafell Pike as part of its route. For visitors who would rather not attempt to run up England’s highest mountain, there are other attractions on offer. New for 2013 will be All Mountain Days, guided mountain biking days in the hills, while a programme of entry-level guided walks will be hosted by Hi-Tec, as part of their commitment to the national Britain on Foot campaign being organised by the Outdoor Industries Association.

Once again the Festival Village in Crow Park on the edge of Keswick will be at the heart of the Keswick Mountain Festival. This year, over 18,000 people visited the base during the course of KMF and now that the Theatre by the Lake will be involved in the 2013 event, even more people are expected to attend. The full speaker programme for the theatre will be published on the KMF website soon, but what we can tell you is that it will include an eclectic mix of 12 personalities from the world of the outdoors and adventure.

The new festival website (link below) offers an improved navigation experience, a better ticket payment gateway and includes features such as competitions and the facility to contribute to an Instagram photo-gallery.  Other additions to this year’s festival programme are two specialist film nights in a new venue for the event, the Alhambra Cinema in Keswick.
