New Osprey expedition packs

Designed for expeditions and long distance trekking, the new Xenith and Xena packs from Osprey offer “lightweight yet durable components and fabrics, together with an innovative and super comfortable back-system”. They’re available from spring this year and the two models are gender specific – Xenith for men and Xena for women.

Osprey’s AirScape backpanel design with reversed spacer mesh is intended to provide ventilation and a super comfortable surface – the specially-engineered spacer is breathable and durable with surface silicone printing, which adds a grip surface for extra security. A LightWireHD peripheral frame provides structure to the pack and effectively transfers the weight of the load to an improved pre-curved hipbelt which can be custom molded for a personalised fit. The women’s specific pack Xena share all the features of the Xenith but has a shoulder and hip belt system designed for the female shape.

Other features of the packs, which make use of advanced materials, such as 210D HT-HD Nylon and 840D Nylon Powermesh, include side zip entry providing easy access to items in the depth of the load, removable lid which converts to a quality lumbar pack or smaller trips, hipbelt pockets for secure storage that’s easily accessible, and Stow-on-the-Go trekking pole attachment system.

The Xenith comes in Mediterranean Blue (and Graphite Grey on the 105L model) and the Xena is available in Ruby Red or Sky Blue. Prices are as follows:Xenith 105 SRP: £240; Xenith 88 SRP: £220; Xenith 75 SRP: £200; Xena 85 SRP: £220; Xena 70 SRP: £200
