Thanks to the success of The Silk Road: Tajikistan Expedition 2013 – British watchmakers Christopher Ward have become the first company in the world to have a mountain named after them.
Led by 20-year-old Struan Chisholm, the expedition saw six climbers scale a previously unclimbed 17,000ft peak in Central Asia’s Pamir Range, naming it Mount Christopher Ward after their lead sponsor.
The Silk Road team set off from Scotland in June, before completing a 3,500-mile road trip to Tajikistan. They then journeyed into the mountains on a three day trek before conquering the unclimbed 4922m high peak on August 6, following a gruelling vertical ice climb to the summit.
And what’s even more impressive, this was only the second climbing expedition to attempt a peak in the Rog Valley – as many remain unclimbed due to their remote nature, with more people having set foot on the moon than tackled these mountains.
