We have 5 of these superb solar-chargers to give away!
Whether you’re going to Nepal for a month or the Highlands for a weekend, being able to keep your devices charged up on the move is vital – and for trekkers and mountaineers, the Powermonkey Extreme is the ideal solution.
Since its launch in 2011, the Powermonkey Extreme has undergone some serious upgrades to further cement its reputation as the ‘charger of choice’ for outdoor enthusiasts, travellers and adventurers. It houses a massive 9000mAh-capacity Lithium Polymer battery and offers users real power in a compact, durable shell. The unit is capable of recharging most 5V devices including iPhones/smartphones up to four times, a Garmin Edge 800 up to six times, standard mobiles up to eight times and an iPad up to two times (depending on the model). As well as a 5V USB socket, the Extreme features a 12V DC output port that is capable of charging SLR camera batteries, portable DVD players and much more, directly from the unit.
The Powermonkey Extreme can be recharged in three ways; via the universal mains charger, via the solar panel or via USB. The rugged, clam-shell design solar panel offers 3Watts max output, allowing full recharge of the Powermonkey Extreme within 18-22 hours in optimum light conditions. The Extreme also has a solar energy detection feature which activates the incorporated state-of-the-art MPPT (maximum power point tracker) technology, allowing the solar panel to charge the Powermonkey unit more efficiently in low light conditions. Users can also simultaneously use the solar panel to charge the Extreme whilst it is charging their device. The solar panel can be attached to tents or rucksacks via the included velcro strap, so is perfect for hiking and trekking and is designed to take the knocks and spills of both the power-hungry adventurer and the busy traveller. As you’d expect, the Extreme is shock-resistant and waterproof for 30 minutes up to 1m, and with the Aquastrap is even watertight while it charges your devices. So how can you get your hands on one of the three Powermonkey Extremes we have to give away? Read on to find out…
