Hillwalkers can soon take advantage of additional hiking routes forming part of Scotland’s Great Glen Way, thanks to a £1m upgrade of the path.

The 79 mile long distance walking route, which runs from Fort William to Inverness taking in Ben Nevis and Loch Ness, is currently undergoing work to revamp the trail. Alterations include path realignment and new track construction to open up views of the Highlands.

Inverness, Ross and Skye District Tourism Manager, Jack Mackay, said: ‘’This £1m investment will help us to carry out our long-term felling programme down the Great Glen. As well as improving some existing sections, we’ll be creating new sections of path higher up the hill, which will really open up the views across Loch Ness and the views to the mountains to the east and the west.’’

The Great Glen Way will remain open throughout reconstruction, although some diversions are in place. Work on the trail is expected to conclude this spring.
