OMM celebrates 50

The original mountain marathon continues to grow as athletes enter for the race’s 50th year. The extreme two-day race, held at the end of October, tests competitors on their endurance and self-reliance. In OMM tradition the UK race location will be kept a secret until August.

The event, which started in 1968, aimed to combine fell running, orienteering, hill walking and trail running. The original mountain marathon is thought to be the race that all adventure races descended from.

Entrants must compete in teams of two, they will receive a map with a series of checkpoints they must visit over the two days. Competitors must carry everything they need for the two days including a night camping. There are seven course options of varying distance with the most challenging the Elite course.

This October, they will be holding a special night for competitors and suporters to celebrate the 50 years of success and influence that OMM has had on the outdoor community.
