Sir Chris Bonington has released a video message to remind us that the hills will ‘always be there’ and that, sooner or later, we will be able to enjoy again the mountain adventures that enrich our lives – but for now we must follow the Government’s advice on social distancing.
In the video, Sir Chris reminisces about a trip to Suilven in the Highlands many years ago, and compares the current restrictions to being stuck in a tent on expedition during a storm, saying how he learned to ‘go with the flow’ during these times and used the downtime to think about things that he wanted to do in the future.
It’s always a pleasure to hear from Sir Chris, of course, and many of us will take comfort from these words from the great man as we struggle to deal with the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Anyway, sit back, enjoy… and if nothing else, escape for a few minutes watching Sir Chris again on a few of his many incredible adventures!
