The performance fabrics developer Polartec – creator of the fleece – is 30 years young in 2021, and to celebrate they are holding a special competition called the Family Album Photo Contest to create a visual history of those who’ve worn Polartec-made garments on their outdoor adventures over the years.

Up for grabs are a number of limited-edition LC23 X Polartec Peaking Since ’91 fleeces (made from 100% recycled content) for everyone that submits a photo that is used in the Family Album, and there’s also two Grand Prizes of the incredible LC23 X Polartec Peaking Since ’91 armchairs made of the offcuts from the limited edition fleece. “Polartec is as much a part of the outdoor lifestyle as backpacks and hiking boots,” says David Karstad, Polartec Marketing VP and Creative Director. “Peaking Since ’91 lets us reinforce this authenticity and connect with the generations of enthusiasts who’ve worn Polartec, no matter when they first discovered their stoke for nature.”

The fleece has been an essential part of the outdoor lover’s wardrobe since back in the 1980s, when it was called PolarFleece, and if you have any pix of you wearing fleece from this era, Polartec definitely want to hear from you! Since 1991, however, when Polartec came into existence as a company, they have developed many other fabrics for outdoor use (NeoShell, PowerStretch and Alpha to name but a few) while the humble fleece has also been developed into a multitude of styles and designs since then while still remaining a firm favourite among users.

Polartec have produced a fun (and rather trippy!) video about the Family Album Photo Contest – see below – with the limited-edition fleeces and armchairs featuring alongside a ‘mad professor’ character clad in what can only be described as the ultimate recycled Polartec fleece!
