The original Spitz Jacket was released a decade ago and set a benchmark for durable protection in the mountains. Now, Haglöfs have updated the jacket, using the latest materials and manufacturing know-how, their aim being ‘to take a classic and make a new future classic’.

The new Spitz Jacket will be unleashed into outdoor retailers this autumn, but you can get your hands on it before then as we have two samples to give away, to one male and one female reader!

So what makes the Spitz Jacket so special? The materials for a start; the Spitz uses 3-layer Gore-Tex Pro with a 40-denier face fabric, and to make sure the jacket survives the roughest days on the mountain there are reinforced areas on the shoulders, sleeves, back and hips. Despite this, the jacket weighs in at a surprisingly spritely 490g (men’s Large) and 435g (women’s Medium).

The hood is, of course, helmet-compatible, and comes with three-way adjustment to provide the perfect fit whether wearing a helmet or not, along with a stiffened, laminated peak. Two large ventilation zips at the armpits ensure you can dump heat quickly when working hard, and storage consists of two Napoleon-style pockets on the chest, a single arm pocket and an internal pocket for valuables. All the zips are laminated, offering near waterproof performance, and the overall protection provided by the Spitz will stand up to the worst that the British, Alpine or Himalayan weather can throw at it.

The Spitz Jacket comes in men’s and women’s specific styles, with four colour combinations available for men, and two colour combinations available for women.

For a chance of winning a fabulous Spitz Jacket, just answer the question below:

What kind of mountain could be called ‘spitz’?

a. A pointed one
b. A snowy one
c. A remote one
