Stella Papadopoulou and guides Rolfe and Gianni on the summit

On 31st January 2015 at 3.30pm the Trek & Mountain Aconcagua 2015 reader expedition achieved success by putting two team members on the summit, with all other team members reaching 6000m in deteriorating conditions.

The expedition, sponsored by Haglofs and Powertraveller, began with a trek up the Horcones Valley near Mendoza, Argentina, to Aconcagua Base Camp at 4,300m. From here the team made an acclimatisation climb of Bonete Peak (circa 5000m) before launching their assault on the Western and Southern Hemisphere’s highest mountain itself.

With deteriorating weather forecast, the team pushed hard and spent just one night at Camp 3 before making their summit bid. All team members made it over 6000m while Stella Papadopoulou and Trek & Mountain Editor Chris Kempster made it to the summit itself, along with guides Rolfe Oostra and Gianni Capano.

You’ll be able to read the full expedition report in the April 2015 edition of Trek & Mountain, and in the meantime we’ll be posting plenty of images and videos of the exped on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks to Haglofs and Powertraveller for their support on the expedition, and to 360 Expeditions for their expert guiding and logistics.
