New action cam from Garmin

Garmin VIRB front

GPS experts Garmin have announced the VIRB X and the VIRB XE – a compact camera which shoots high definition, wide angle footage and has a variety of mounting options such as helmet, chest, handlebar and dash mounts.

The waterproof camera can be submerged to 50 metres without a case, allowing for clearer picture and audio, even when under water.

Garmin has also introduced ‘G-Metrix’ which captures action data such as speed and g-force, and turns it into animated overlays, using the camera’s built-in sensors and wireless options. Optional sensors are available for a variety of activities including: fitness, aviation, marine, outdoor and automotive.

Using the built in WiFi, users can connect the camera to the mobile app, allowing real time video streaming to help you set up the shot and see what’s being recorded. The mobile app also lets you track the camera, if needed, preventing it from becoming lost.

The VIRB X and XE will be available in summer 2015 and will retail for £239.99 for the VIRB X and £319.99 for the VIRB XE.
