The Gore-Tex Fourteen Peaks Challenge, part of their Experience Tour, is a new project that will take a group of outdoors fans to the highest heights of Wales. The challenge is known locally as the Three Thousands because it takes in all of the 3000ft+ peaks in the area, and Gore-Tex are offering the chance to learn from local Mountain Guides not only about how best to tackle some of Snowdonia’s classic ridge walks, but also about its nature and the local environment.
“If you are an outdoors fan who enjoys hill walking, but are looking for a challenge that will push you one step further, this is the ideal project for you. The chosen candidates will already be passionate about the outdoors, but eager to learn new skills. They will also get to experience the benefits of Gore-Tex product technology whilst enjoying some of the most stunning scenery in the UK,” explains Anna McNamara of W. L. Gore.
The first day will be dedicated to practising the skills needed to tackle the bigger peaks, including scrambling. The four hill days will take in several famous routes including the Snowdon Horseshoe, the Carneddau Ridge, Tryfan and the Glyders. Gore-Tex has been working with The National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin for over 15 years. The centre’s staff are amongst the most experienced, committed and competent outdoor enthusiasts you could ever hope to meet. Their talents and passion combined with the best facilities available make Plas y Brenin a very special place to visit.
Martin Chester, Director of Training at Plas y Brenin and one of the panel of judges explains more about the criteria he will be looking for when choosing the winners, “The Gore-Tex Experience Tour Fourteen Peaks challenge offers some breathtaking views from the top of the National Park’s highest mountains. If you are passionate about the great outdoors you will certainly enjoy this, but it is a physically demanding week long challenge so anyone applying will need to be reasonably fit.”
