Do you have what it takes to be a mountain rescue volunteer? Penrith Mountain Rescue is on the lookout for new members based in the North-West of England to join their team.
Covering the Lake District around Penrith and Carlisle, the Eden Valley and the North Pennines, the team are seeking outdoor enthusiasts who can operate on the hills in all weather conditions including snow and ice. New recruits should be fit, committed, and able to navigate in the dark.
Team Leader, Mike Hill explained: “Potential volunteers need to be experienced hillwalkers and mountaineers – but not necessarily climbers – who are willing to give up their time to help others in distress, not just on our local hills, but also in the wider rural areas. As a team we have specialist knowledge and equipment which is called upon to assist other emergency services in locating and transporting casualties, searching for missing persons and working during flooding incidents, so we’re looking for a range of skills but also a lot of commitment.”
Members will be expected to take part in regular training sessions and fundraising events in addition to callouts. Successful applicants will follow an induction programme before serving a year-long probationary period with the support of a senior team member.
Application forms can be downloaded from the team’s website.
Those interested must apply by October 1 2013.
