Climbers and hillwalkers can now access an online version of the ‘Going To The Hills’ form, a safety document put in place for outdoor enthusiasts to complete before heading out onto Scotland’s hills.
Intended to help rescuers locate those lost or injured in Scotland’s vast wilderness, the form contains information from walkers that may prove useful to mountain rescue teams or the police in the case of an emergency, including equipment carried, contact details and information regarding route taken and activity type such as walking or climbing. The document, which previously had to be collected in person, is then left with a friend or relative to monitor.
Police Scotland Superintendent, Gus MacPherson, said: “The contact form is not a new idea but as we approach the autumn and winter months it is the ideal time to encourage its use by all those who enjoy the outdoors. This information can provide an early alert if you or your party fall into difficulty and early notification can make all the difference to your safety especially during poor weather and low temperatures.”
