The Alpine Club in London will host an evening of mountain poetry with a difference next month, with Yorkshire born climber Dennis Gray leading the event.
Taking place on Tuesday 12 November at 7.30pm, the evening will begin with a review of mountain poetry from Professor Terry Gifford and a historical introduction from Gray. Alpine Club regulars will then be invited to read out their favourite mountain themed poetry and verse, with tracks from the Mount Everest Foundation Wanderlust Charity CD set to play between readings.
Organiser Dennis Gray explained: “I want to encourage anyone who is writing or keen on mountain/climbing poetry to come and read a couple of their works or favourites. I guess this will be harking back to the days when mountaineering luminaries like Leslie Stephen, John Ruskin and Geoffrey Winthrop Young probably cared as much about iambic pentameters as Alpine Peaks.’’
Those interested should contact the Alpine Club for more details.
