Do you know a Derbyshire-based young adventurer who shows a natural talent for climbing, caving, running or another outdoor adventure activity? Nominate them now to be Derbyshire’s Young Adventurer of the Year 2013 – a new award set up as part of this year’s Buxton Adventure Festival.
Open to anyone under the age of 18 who goes to school in Derbyshire, the award aims to recognise achievements made by younger outdoor enthusiasts with a ceremony at the Oaklands Manor Outdoor Leadership Centre on Friday November 1 – with the Buxton Adventure Festival official opening to be held the next day.
The evening will see British adventurer Dave Cornthwaite give a keynote speech before presenting the winners with medals and prizes, including the chance to race the Junior Adventure Racing World Champs in the French Alps next summer. The Meek Family will also make an appearance to inspire crowds with a talk on their ‘100 Family Adventures Challenge‘.
To nominate a friend or relative, state in 250 words or less your reason for nomination, including information on the chosen activity, be it cycling, skiing, skateboarding, free-running, kayaking or sailing. Winners will be short-listed by top climber Pete Whittaker, fell runner Stuart Bond and cyclist Adela Carter. In addition, a Spirit of Adventure prize will be awarded to a young person who has overcome a great challenge in the face of adversity.
The closing date for nominations is October 25.
