Hillwalkers and mountaineers can brush up on their outdoor skills this spring, thanks to the launch of two new Hill and Mountain Skills training courses.
Fully accredited by Mountain Training UK, the two-day courses are set to take place at locations across North Wales, including Snowdonia National Park and the Clywdian range locale, and will equip beginners with the skills and knowledge needed to stay safe and build confidence out on the hills.
The Hill Skills course will cover a variety of topics, including how to plan walks, using a map, hill walking techniques, equipment required, understanding the effects of weather and dealing with emergencies, while the more challenging Mountain Skills course, for those with a reasonable fitness level, will focus on instruction in map and compass, mountain weather forecasting, movement through steep ground, planning and preparation, emergency procedures, seasonal effects and the mountain environment.
Available from the beginning of April, each course will cost £100 per person, with a compulsory Mountain Training registration fee costing an additional £20.
