The action-packed August edition of Trek & Mountain is on sale now, featuring the Eiger, Lhotse, Mt Olympus, Scotland, high altitude gear and much more.
Gracing the cover are two of the ‘Berner Trilogy’, the Monch and the Eiger. We decided to see what mountain activities mere mortals can do in the vicinity of the infamous ‘Nordwand’ – the North Face of the Eiger, and among other things we found outselves abseiling on the North Face itself and topping out on the Eiger’s neighbour, the Monch.
Other features include Bonita Norris’s account of her recent successful expedition on Everest’s neighbour, Lhotse, and a perfectly-timed Reader Report on trekking up Greece’s highest peak, Mt Olympus. Continuing our new ‘Great British Mountain Days’ series, we head to Torridon for an epic day out on Beinn Eighe, on a traverse of the famous Black Carls. We also whizz over to Chamonix to take part in Arc’teryx’s recent alpine skills weekend, the Alpine ARC’ademy.
Gear-wise, it’s an high-altitude feast this month: we have double-Everest summiter Tim Mosedale comparing the six 8000m down expedition suits that are currently available for use on the highest Himalayan peaks, and we also take a look at expedition mountain tents and high-altitude boots for use at 6000m up to 8000m.
It’s a cracking issue, and you can get hold of your copy by either visiting our online shop or dropping by your local WHSmith or other quality newsagent find your nearest stockist here.
