Mountain Equipment Pulsar Jacket updated

Mountain Equipment’s popular Pulsar softshell jacket has received a revamp and now makes use of Polartec Power Shield Pro. The jacket, perfect for cold weather adventures from Scotland to Alaska, features a mountain cut with articlated and pre-shaped sleeves. Flat-locked seams are used throughout and other features include a fully-adjustable hood. two hand pockets that are fully accessible when wearing a harness and rucksack, and adjustable cuffs and dual tether hem drawcords.

Power Shield Pro is key to the Pulsar’s cold weather performance, combining as it does cutting edge softshell fabrics with a hi-loft waffle fleece lining, making the jacket very warm but also highly compressible and quick drying. When climbing in cold conditions, the demands on your clothing systems are great, as one minute you can be working hard and generating heat (i.e when climbing) while the next minute you can be more static (e.g. at a belay stance). Power Shield is intended to cope with this by, according to Polartec, allowing “true air permeability for a controlled two-way air exchange that significantly improves moisture transport over softshells that do not allow airflow.” It stlll manages to be pretty water resistant too, with a hydrostatic head of 5000mm. Mobility is helped by the inclusion of extra stretchy panels in key areas.

The Pulsar Jacket is available in men’s (sizes S-XL) and women’s versions (8-16) and comes in light ocean/shadow grey (pictured) and indigo/black, and has an SRP of £230.
