Garmin have launched their new Oregon 600/650 series, which they call their ‘most Complete Outdoor Experience Ever.’ The rugged touchscreen handheld navigator, guides via high end GPS + GLONASS satellite technology and uses an ‘outdoor-perfected’ transflexive display which makes it easier to read in full bright sunlight and in the shade.
The new Oregon units are a development – albeit a major one – of their popular Oregon 500 and feature much-enhanced processor power, which allows a new level of interaction with Garmin high-quality maps including the ability to zoom in, pan out, and rotate using multi-touch in any conditions and even with most gloves, whilst conserving Garmin’s already impressive long battery life for longer adventures. The integrated 8MP autofocus camera with digital zoom and automatic flash/torch enables users to mark their memories and supports paperless geocaching or waypoint marking.
When connected with a Smartphone via the free Garmin Basecamp app, Oregon users can also connect to others, share activity data and check for Garmin Adventures (an ‘Adventures’ is a route with images and other useful marked nearby from wherever they are.
The new units look impressive and you won’t have to wait long to get your hands on them – they are expected in stores in spring 2013 with suggested retail prices of £319.99 (for the 600), £379.99 (600t), £379.99 (650) and £439.99 (650t).
