Ski mountaineering racing comes to Nevis Range

The penultimate ski mountaineering race of the Skimo Scotland series is to take place on the 23rd March at Nevis Range.

Introduced to Scotland for the first time this year, the last three months has seen Skimo Scotland successfully hold all four scheduled races. The first race was held at the Lecht Ski Centre on the 29th December with 26 racers on the starting list. Racers had 90 minutes to complete as many laps (2.2km in distance, with 113m ascent and descent) as possible.

Neil Raitt is currently leading the series with Malcolm Rudge and Lee Johnson in 2nd and 3rd. Gillian Culshaw is leading the Female Category and Scott Robertson tops the Open Category. The final race at the Nevis Range will have a 6.64km course with a 763m ascent and descent.

Entries close on Sunday 17th March. The British Championships are to be held on 31st March in France. In May the result will be known as to whether Skimo will become an Olympic sport.
