More than £2,000 has been raised for the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue team thanks to the success of their latest fundraiser – the Oggie 8.

89 people took part in the Snowdonia based marathon last week, which saw runners and walkers from across the country scale eight 3,000ft peaks in a test of strength, stamina and endurance, while raising funds for Mountain Rescue.

Four person team ‘To the Pub’ came in first place this year with a time of 7hrs 48mins, while ‘Fellowship of the Hills’ brought up the rear in 14hrs 28mins.

Now in its 6th year running, the Oggie 8 requires participants to ascend Carnedd Llewelyn, Yr Elen, Carnedd Dafydd, Pen yr Ole Wen, Yr Garn, Glyder Fawr, Glyder Fach and Tryfan, before returning to Oggie Base for an after party.

The event is the main fundraiser for the OVMR team, who require £60k of charitable donations each year in order to continue their lifesaving work.

Chris Lloyd of Ogwen Mountain Rescue said: “We congratulate and thank all the participants for taking part in the mountain challenge. “We also thank all the businesses who offered goods and prizes for this event.”
