In 2017 Trek & Mountain returns to South America for an amazing trekking and mountaineering trip, and YOU could be on the team!
The destination is Bolivia, and our objectives are threefold – Huayna Potosi (6,088m), Pequeno Alpamayo (5,410m) and the mighty Illimani (6,438m). The expedition will be led by Gavin Bate, head honcho at Adventure Alternative, one of the UK’s leading trekking and expedition companies – and we will be offering both a 2-week option (Huayna Potosi and Pequeno Alpamayo) and a 3-week option (adding Bolivia’s highest peak, Illimani).
This expedition is a superb introduction to mountaineering in Latin America. First we’ll be tackling two peaks that are both respectable mountaineering objectives in their own right – Huayna Potosi (rated at alpine grade PD+) and Pequeno Alpamayo (PD). The climbing is not overly technical but does require confidence, care and knowledgable use of crampons and ice axe. Team members should also have experience of roped travel on glaciated terrain. The programme is designed to help aid acclimatisation but past experience of altitudes of at least 4,000m is strongly recommended.
Those with a little more mountaineering experience might be tempted by the 3-week option which adds on the highest peak in the Cordillera Real – Illimani – to the other peaks. Although it is more technically challenging than the first two peaks on our trip (alpine grade PD+/AD–) team members attempting Illimani will benefit from being well acclimatised after spending two weeks at high altitude.
Our 2017 Bolivia reader expedition kicks off on June 11th, and the prices are as follows: £2,195 for the 2-week option (not including flights), and £2,965 for the 3-week option (not including flights).
