UK Outdoor Industry Award winners announced

The winning products in this year’s UK Outdoor Industry Awards have been announced, and among the winners are the likes of Rab (for their Mythic sleeping bag), Satmap (for their Active 20 handheld GPS) and Katadyn (for their BeFree water filter bottle). In fact, as well as winning the accessories category, Katadyn picked up the overall award for best product.

Rab’s Mythic bags are currently on test with Trek & Mountain (you can read our full review in the May/Jun issue) but from the moment we saw the bags we were impressed with their incredible light weight, packability and warmth. Using super high quality 900 fillpower hydrophobic down, the Mythic 200, 400 and 600 promise class-leading warmth-to-weight performance.

Satmap’s Active 20, which won the Best Digital Product award, is the latest incarnation of their popular handheld GPS unit offering full colour OS mapping (and a range of mapping for other territories around the world) in an easy-to-use and durable unit. The Active 20 now features a touch-sensitive screen, allowing quick and easy viewing of maps, in addition to the dedicated buttons which have made Satmap units such a popular choice for serious outdoor-goers over the years. We are currently putting the Active 20 through its paces in the French Alps, and will publish our review on www.trekandmountan.com very soon!

Winner of the Accessories category and also the overall award, the Katadyn BeFree is a collapsible drink bottle with a filter in the head. Its high flow rate means you can get clean water from streams and lakes wherever you are on the hill. Ideal for runners and walkers, just fill up the bottle and let the EZ-Clean Membrane do the work. Easy to clean; remove the filter and swish in any lake, river or stream. For storage, the collapsible bottle packs down small. Available in 600ml, 1L and 3L versions.
