Swedish company Primus-Silva is celebrating three major awards, including the coveted Product Of The
Year Award, in the UK Outdoor Industry Awards announced at this year’s OIA Conference.
The Awards are split across ten categories, with Product of the Year being awarded to the overall outstanding product.
The process started at the Outdoor Trade Show last year in Liverpool, where a judging panel made up of experts from the outdoor industry, as well as key journalists and retailers, selected the finalists in each category. The judges’ selection was based on a range of criteria including innovation, functionality, choice of materials, environmental friendliness, safety and commercial viability. The finalists were then put forward to a consumer online vote between November and February, with more than 1,500 consumers casting their votes.
Primus-Silva products won two of the category awards: the Silva Free 1200 XS head torch in the Accessories category, and the Silva Terra Expedition S Compass in the Sustainability category.
The Free 1200 XS brings a new concept to head torches, modularity: users can swop different lamp units and batteries around to create the perfect set-up for their activity. The Free range has a wide choice of units available as separate items, along with a host of accessories.
Silva’s Terra initiative is a roadmap towards making its products more sustainable, product by product, and the new Terra Expedition S compass reflects this. The case, grip ring and graduation ring are made from Revo recycled polypropylene plus natural hemp fibres, resulting in 90% less carbon emissions, while the lanyard is also made of recycled material.
The UK Outdoor Industry Product of the Year Award, for the overall outstanding product of 2024, was awarded to the Silva Free 1200 XS head torch.
