In 1818 the Grivel family of blacksmiths started to transform their production of agricultural tools to satisfy the rather peculiar demands of a new breed of wealthy tourists who, for unfathomable reasons, wanted to climb mountains! And so, the Grivel Ice Axe and Crampons came into being.
Today, Grivel is creating equipment for tackling the hardest mountain routes and is constantly bringing innovation to the development of ice climbing gear. From reinventing the design of technical ice tools with stronger and ultralight materials; to resolving snow build up problems with the first anti-balling plate on a crampon.
Safety is a keyword at Grivel with products such as the Stealth Helmet, Twin Gate Karabiners, and the aforementioned Anti-Ball Crampon illustrating this. These products are the result of extensive testing; from impact to fatigue, and strength tests.
Grivel is made in Italy using solar energy, since 2010 all the energy required for production is produced by photovoltaic panels, making manufacturing cleaner and more eco-friendly.
