The North Face Mountain Festival returns to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland with a bang in 2017. Fuelling the outdoor spirits and minds of explorers from across the world, this year’s event takes place at the foot of the Eiger from 14-17 September 2017, doubling in participants from 2016 with an extra night added to the itinerary. We head to Cogne, Italy, for an event that celebrates the start of the ice climbing season in the Alps…  For the last five years, the Cogne Ice Opening has unofficially marked the start of the ice climbing season in the Alps. OMM celebrates 50

OMM celebrates 50

The original mountain marathon continues to grow as athletes enter for the race’s 50th year. The extreme two-day race, held at the end of October, tests competitors on their endurance and self-reliance. In OMM tradition the UK race location will be kept a secret until August. The event, which started in 1968, aimed to combine fell running, orienteering, hill walking and trail running. The original mountain marathon is thought to be the race that all adventure races descended from. A new Norwegian Mountain Centre has opened in Åndalsnes, and Trek & Mountain contributor (and first British ascentionist of the infamous Troll Wall) Tony Howard was invited along to the centre for the Romsdal’s Mountain Festival. The North Face launch new mountain festival

The North Face have announced the launch of a new festival, The North Face Mountain Festival, set in Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland, at the foot of the Eiger. The festival will run from the 16th to 18th of September and let’s festival goers trial outdoor activities such as running mountainous trails for the first time, following a pro athlete up a rock-face, learning gourmet expedition cookery or simply sharing tales of extreme adventure around a campfire.
